Aid station people were great

Aid Stations get ups

All the support. Who ever comes up with those awards should get an award based on creativity!

All, except I am missing my finisher shirt

Always well organized

At $15, the race is well worth it. Also liked that the 30-35 age group was weak enough for me to get hardware.

Atmosphere

Atmosphere

Barr Trail

Barr trail and the strong field

Beautiful Barr Trail! And all the great volunteers.

Challenge of the uphill climb

Chance to test myself against others on this challenging course

Cheering volunteers at the aid stations

Competitive field, excellent course, great finishers shirt, great value.

Course

Everything

Everything was great, but, the race shirt is nice.

Everything

Feeling the accomplishment of getting to Barr Camp and getting to turn around to come back down!...The awards were awesome too!

Finishing

Finishing

Finishing

Finishing up Hydro

Fun course and extremely well run.

Getting finished. It was HOT!

Good challenge

Good people running, aid stations, and well organized. A great race.

Good prep for Pikes, good hard workout, great competition, and a lot of little neat ideas that make for a great race. (like pizza, cool awards, primes, competitive aid stations, emailing about the bathrooms ahead of time)

Good scenery, competition.

How friendly everyone was.

How well it was organized

How well run the event is

I couldn’t believe how great the post-race events were — free pizza, free massages, random drawings — it was quite the “spread” for the almost non-existent entry fee. I’ve run high priced marathons (i.e. Disney World) where nothing was included in the race.

I have been on the course many times (10 Pikes Peak Ascents and 2 Marathons) so I knew what to expect. But the kids at the aid stations were absolutely amazing...I felt bad having to vote for one aid station over the other.

I like the distance and the up-and-down nature. Pike’s Peak Ascent is all up :(

I like the local feel of a race like this. From the local schools to the friendly people helping at the finish line. I loved the Gatorade slushies at No Name!! They deserved to win, just for that!!!

I like the no-litter ethic, and the enthusiasm from the high school cross-country teams. Also like your “3:30:00 or no shirt” stance because as one who barely makes cutoff it makes the shirt/medal/etc mean a lot more to me."

I liked the trail

I saw Matt Carpenter at the Colorado Running Company when I picked up my packet. His comment was “Another victim” I made some comment about “It’ll be interesting.” He said “It’ll be fun.” After leaving the store I pondered his comment. First regretting not thanking him and introducing myself but then thinking that is exactly what I want to do...make it fun. So the entire race (against myself and time) the challenge, meeting people along the way (very shortly) and the volunteers! I can’t say enough about the volunteers and of course...THANK YOU MR. CARPENTER.. without you I would not have experienced my first mountain run! I made it down before 3 hrs!

I won my age group and a pair of La Sportiva Slingshots! The fact that I could turn around at Barr Camp, rather than having to continue on up into the “death zone” above Barr Camp like I do on the Pikes Peak Marathon! :) The altitude and distance are great.

“It has been a long time since I have seen so much encouragement between competitors. Even some of the leaders coming down were shouting encouragement to those still going up. As I passed or was passed, almost everyone was saying good job. I also love being on Barr Trail. The e-mail updates and the information provided by Matt was incredible.

It is the total package — great web, well run, good causes, good swag

It was a real challenge for me because it was my first time racing in about 30+ years. You guys do a great job organizing it all and it’s really great that you give the money away to the High Schools and the racers.

It was hard. The trail etiquette was great. I had no problems going up or down. Bring on the Marathon!

It was so well organized.

It was well organized — as always. The watermelon was awesome!

It’s fun, the people are great, the volunteers are awesome & I got to shake Matt’s hand at the finish :-)

It’s hard

It’s just very well organized. Everything from the email reminders and advice, to the theme costumed high-school manned aid stations — with Gatorade slushies at No Name and really cold water at Bobs Road, to the 5 or so recorded split times. It may sound corny, but the handshake, smile, and kind word from Matt Carpenter at the finish line was really nice.

It’s the only race I do...a big challenge but everyone is friendly

It’s tough

Just a good race.

Location

Location, it is challenging. People were very nice cheering for each other.

Love Barr Trail.

Love the high school aid stations! The organization was great as usual, like the new shirts a lot too!

Low-key, 100% of proceeds go to causes, aid-station challenge raises money for schools, awards are good.

Matt Carpenter’s involvement, high school aid stations, Barr Trail, donation of proceeds to great causes, and no mileage markers, just landmarks.

Money goes back to community and great aid stations.

My PR on the Barr Trail. The awards are really cool.

No injuries this year

Not too big.

Organization — 100% of proceeds are donated back to the community. I especially like the High School challenge.

Organization + aid stations. It gets more an more difficult to vote for the best one"

Organization, splits, competitors

Overall friendliness of everyone involved--racers and volunteers. The way the volunteers said our names as we went buy.

Perfect weather, organization

Running down.

Scenery, camaraderie

Scenery, terrain

Seeing the really fast people come down and the encouragement when passing people that were going the opposite way.

Size of the field; aid stations were well stocked and ultra-friendly; hearing my name called out mid-race at the aid stations (wow!!). NICE SHIRT!!!! Finally, it was a very classy move having Matt at the finish line — Matt, you Rock big time!!! Thanks for a very well done event. Oooops, also, the racers were so nice — I’ve never had so many people telling me I’m doing a good job in the middle of a race. The encouragement was very uplifting, given that I had a big time knee problem on the way down that slowed me down.

Small, home town, home trail, “down to earth” and challenging

Supports local causes

That all the money is going for a good cause.

That I made it under the 3h 30m cutoff!

That it has all the little touches I appreciate. Like the reverse countdown timer at the start line—that’s just one less thing to worry about.

That it is a very challenging race and all the runners seem very nice and helpful.

That race fees go towards charity. That high schools have the chance to earn money, and to work harder to earn more. The key chain. Pizza. Free massages.

The aid stations

The aid stations are appropriately spaced and they do a great job

The aid stations. They help set this race apart and make it more fun.

The atmosphere: the student massages, the pizza, the race, the fact that you have to earn the shirt, the fact that matt stayed at the finish and greeted the finishers, etc

The best part is being able to see Matt running hard in a race. Then seeing him shake hands and thank everyone for coming out to the race. That alone would make me come back even if everything else sucked.

The cause and the people

The challenge, the people and the support

The challenge.

The competition and the craziness of those who choose to run up Pikes or who stand out in the heat cheering or volunteering.

The course and competition.

The course was great.

The course, the atmosphere, the people, the is my favorite!

The cutoff time. It keeps me motivated.

The donations to charities.

The donations to charity and the community.

The eliteness — even for a middle of the packer like me — it’s a tough course and you have to finish before the cutoff to get the shirt! I also have a love/hate relationship with the finish line!

The enthusiasm from all the fans, volunteers, and aid stations.

The fact that the proceeds go to very good causes, but the runners still are well taken care of.

The fact that the race proceeds all go to well-deserving organizations

The fact that this race treats running like a sport! I wish more races would do the same. Too many races are just doing a body count and the funny thing is that many don’t treat any of their runners as well as this race treats all of theirs. And what blows me away is that this race does it after giving all of its entry fees back to the community! Ever thought about being race consultants?

The feeling of this enormous contribution to your community AND that the runners are treated so Well...And the Spectacular trail that I get to enjoy!

The free stuff afterwards. Especially the pizza.

The freebies — Chipotle, packet, shirt

The great support from the entire community

The high school aid stations and their enthusiasm

The high schoolers at the aid stations always gives me a boost of energy. I like that.

The HS Water stations...great use of competition getting the best out of the kids!

The incentive of having to earn the shirt. Its not a gift just for signing up. When you see someone wearing the shirt, you know and appreciate what they accomplished to obtain it. Additionally, this may sound crazy, but I like the “nasty little hill” at the end of the race. Pain is good...

The location and the quality organization.

The location.

The misting at water stations.

The organization and community support (donations to good causes). I’ve done plenty of “professionally” managed races that were way more expensive and delivered a lot less so the BTMR really stands out positively in my opinion."

The organization, it’s principles (i.e. community awareness), awards and of course, Barr Trail.

The overall community spirit — it is such a fun race and everything is well done. I like that it is also quite competitive — it’s fun to see some of the top trail runners out there.

The people

The people, organization and challenge.

The people. This is one of the most friendly races anywhere. The racers, the aid station volunteers, the sponsors, the race directors, the spectators—Everyone is awesome.

The race

The relief of finishing

The setting and the attitude of the participants.

The shirt

The small number of runners

The support of the aid stations.

The swag

The total Community Support

The trail

The trail is a great trail, and it wasn’t too crowded, which made the race still fun.

The variety of the different terrain. The uphill at the very end.

The volunteers

The whole atmosphere and the fact that it benefits the community

The whole thing was just really well run (pardon the pun).

This is my favorite race — I love the community involvement, primes, awards, course, organization, aid station competition, etc.

Too many things—the friendliness of all volunteers, the aid stations and the high schools that participate, the local dollars giving back... Everything

Tough course. Great competition.

Turning around

Very organized

Very well organized and manned. It is apparent that much time and thought goes into it.

Very well organized; inexpensive and sanely budgeted. A race for the more serious runner.

Volunteers are absolutely the best

Well managed race. Your race is the best I have ever ran. Consistency every year is really appreciated.

Well managed. other runners. Can't say enough about the awards. Thanks.

Well organized, energetic atmosphere, prize money AND charity, good competition. Passing out food during the awards was also nice. Post-race massage.

Well organized, started on time, fast results, enthusiastic aid stations

You have to finish in time to get our t-shirt
