What did you like least about the race: (163)

A bit warm for me, but can’t complain.

Blisters on both of my heals.

can get a little congested with downhillers vs uphillers in some spots. no way to avoid that.

Can you please do something about the heat? Good practice, I guess.

Can’t think of anything.

Car-boom gels suck, get Gatorade (or something like it) at the aid stations.

Coming down

crashing

crowd on the W’s

Crowding right after the start (but it wasn’t really that bad) and that stupid hill up Hydro Street (as if we hadn’t climbed enough already!).

cut off at 3:30

descent

Difficult to pass slower runners.

Dodging hikers and bikers on the way down. One cut across the trail just in front of me. I dodged, but fell

Downhill running

Dumb people (not involved in the race) getting in my way. One can become very cranky and angry after running up and down a mountain then getting cut off, and almost falling over a dog. It upset me very much at the time because I was trying to race hard and didn’t need any other interference.

Duplication of awards... I know this is supposed to be an elite race, but why not encourage the non-elite runner? Go ahead and give out great awards to the top people, but why do they need a little piece of rock too?

everything was perfect.

Finish area was cramped and too hot.

Finish Line up hill and the fact that you are cramped into a small area. People did not move out of the way and just stood in front of the water and food. Need a bigger area.

Food at the awards area could be better

For me personally, it was when I fell. Overall, there really wasn’t anything I didn’t like about it.

Going uphill at the last 200 yards

Have qualified medical staff at the finish of the race.

Heat

Heat but what can you do.

Heat!

Heat.

Hikers on the trail

Hill at the end

HOT weather

hot weather.

Hot!

How the top runners win all the awards in all categories.

Hydro Street!

I encountered two hikers with a dog that was not on a leash. I love dogs, but don’t think that it was appropriate for them to have theirs running free during a race, it almost tripped me twice!!!!!

I guess I liked the crowded-ness of the trail in places, but there isn’t really anything that can be done about that. Overall, I thought it was great

I HATE the last 200 yards.

It got hot towards the end

It was hot

It was hot towards the end but there isn’t much you can do about that.

It was really hot this year

It was too hot

It was too hot — I got dehydrated

Late start time--need to start at 6AM or earlier

Late start time--should start at 6am at the latest

Missed cutoff by two minutes and walked away empty handed. That sucks. I’m 67 years old and believe my effort was as noteworthy as many of the younger runners who received shirts. Also it looked like they couldn’t tear down the finishers chute fast enough. If someone has been out there 3 1/2 hours plus at least leave them a finishers chute to finish in.

My conditioning-lots of room for improvement

My own performance and the lack of shade at the finish — it’s so hot down there — perhaps a tent would help?

My performance.

n/a

N/A

needs an earlier start...6:00 am

Needs to start earlier to beat the heat

No place to warm down right after the finish.

No shade at the finish, could use a few tents just for runners to get out of the hot sun.

none

none

none

Not a thing

Not enough bathrooms at the sign-in at Soda Springs Park.

not enough power gel

Not enough recognition for all the young kids who raced

Not enough shade shacks or tents and parking in Manitou.

Not enough shelter at the end, I had heat exhaustion and there was no place to sit except the dirt and being sweaty I didn’t want to sit in it.

Nothing

Nothing — no complaints

Nothing really

Nothing.

Nothing.

Nothing.

OK the tents were great, now if you can get some more!

One lady did not tell me she was passing and tripped me on the way by.

other than the grueling climb.... The finish line was too crowded and on a hillside that was not convenient. It definitely needed more shade.

Parking distance from starting line

Parking, but what else could you do

Post race area-not enough shade

Run for money — what was that about — it was meaningless.

Running on the mountain - I’m a flatlander :-)

Slower than last year — have excuse but will save you the details :-)

Smell

Spraining my ankle! Hot, dry sandy trail coming down. I am truly bummed out about it. I have another race on Saturday! The other bummer was having to leave the house at 3am to get to the race. Perhaps in the future we’ll stay the night before the race.

Stubbing my toe two miles from the finish and limping home getting passed by many.

Temperature

The announcer sounded like the announcements you hear on an airline. Mostly inaudible.

The beginning

The congestion at the finish line area and the fact that I stub my toe and wiped out 1 mile from the finish that “barked-up” my right knee pretty badly

The downhill really hurt my knees and quads.

The downhill section caused a lot of soreness

The duplication of awards

The extremely hot weather....however, you can’t control that.

The fact that the organizers try to coerce would-be participants into registering online -- some of us are simply averse to carrying out such transactions online and would prefer not to be discriminated against. The shirts -- same as last year, the shirts have one monumental logo for Pikes Peak National Bank emblazoned on the back. Aren’t there any other sponsors for this race? The backs of race shirts usually have several smaller logos spread around. I can’t stand wearing the shirt because I feel like a walking (or running) billboard for the PPNB. The front of the shirt is marginally better than last year’s which featured a lone, desolate tree in the flatlands -- not very cheerful considering the wildfire conditions at the time.

The finish

The finish area is getting a little crowded; I don’t have a suggestion for this because the area has Its limitations; maybe reserve some of the parking lot; it was real crowded at the end

The finish area. We need shade.

The finish line was crowded.

The finish setup does not lend itself to watching and cheering on other runners. Not much to be done, I suppose, but that’s the only fault I can come up with.

Heat

The first mile

The heat

The heat

The heat

The heat and hikers on the trail.

The heat and lack of shade at the end.

The heat! haha Way too hot at the finish.

the heat!! could have used more shade (tents?) at the finish line

The HEAT!!! I was nauseous for hours and drank constantly on the course. Even had to stop for a nature call and still felt queasy. Was very dizzy and weak for a long time and this has never happened before. How about starting at 6 am next year? I heard this from more than one runner.

The heat, but I guess you don’t have any control over it.

the heat, but there is nothing that can be done about that. that’s just the nature of trail running in the summer

the heat, not your fault

The heat, Obviously not in your control.

The heat.

The heat.

The heat.

The heat. can you change that next year?

The heat... come on, really, can you do something about that next year ;~) (Shade tent at the finish line this year was a great improvement.)

The hills, the heat :)

The hot sun. I think the race should begin at 6:00.

The lack of water and lose dogs

The lady that had her dog off the leash in the uphill portion of the W’s. Good grief.

The last little hill

The last mile or so since it is so steep that you can’t really run without risking injury.

The length (I’m a short distance guy — but that’s my problem)

The only thing that I would change about this race would be to hold it on Saturday am instead of Sunday am.

The overall winners were still counted in the age group awards. Taking them out would let you give awards to more people.

The start

The start is too late — it was hot at the start and got worse

The views, then watching Matt flying by on his down hill descent at Mach 3

The walk up to the starting line.

The weather

Tight start

Too crowded at the beginning.

Too crowded in the first mile.

Too damned hot!

Too darned hot for the last 2.5 mi! could have used some misters at the finish area

Too hot — would be a good Fall race

Too hot this year!

Too hot! (but what can you do?)

Too Hot.

Too many non-racers on the trail at the bottom of the course

Too many runners

Too much up hill!!!!!

Trail on way down, should have a climb only option

Walking from the finish back to parking

Warmer in the afternoon — maybe an earlier start.

Went out too fast, I guess that’s my fault though. The finish line area was a little small and difficult to get in and out of. I never got too crowded so that was good, but I think that it had a tendency to flush some people out early and it was difficult to find people after the race.

Wish it started at 6 am to beat the heat....or maybe I just need to go faster!

Would like to see less runners (willing to pay more for reduced numbers).

You had to run downhill.
