Was the field size (282 finishers) too small, too big or just right? Explain: (164)
? seemed ok.
A tad too big, 300 entries is about maximum the start location can handle, any more would make the first mile or two too congested.
About right
About right.
About right. Too crowded at the finish, but any smaller and you'd feel like you were running alone.
About right. Trail was a little crowded early, but it's worth putting up with to get more people on the mountain.
About right...a little congested at the start, but ok by the 3-4 mile point.
Appeared to be about right. Only congestion was around the first few switchbacks at start of race. Other than that, course spread out the racers very well.
As far as competition, I like a bigger field. As far as turning around, it was about right.
At the beginning, it was crowded (of course). However, I ran much of the downhill with no one in sight - which isn't necessarily good as I like to have "rabbits" in front of me so I can tell if I'm keeping a good pace. Sometimes when I'm out there alone, I begin to go slower because there isn't the competition right on my heels.
At the start line it looked like a big crowd to be on the trail, but it wasn't bad at all. I even found myself running alone at some times.
could be a little bigger, like 450. What about all the no shows?
Could have been bigger -would have enjoyed more company on the trip down
Could have had more runners.
Don't know... Before starting i thought it would be too large and too crowded but that really didn't seem to be a problem and the race could probably support more runners.
Excellent size
excellent size, so much better than the ascent!
Field size was a good number. All of the runners were able to spread out after the start, and settle into their own pace.
Field size was fine. Not too crowded, but enough people to keep you pushing on.
Field was a good size. Probably could have handled another 50 or so.

fine, no problems
Fine.
For most part was just right. The last mile downhill was at times hard to pass runners.

good size
Good size, it probably could have handled a few more. Passing after the turn around at Barr Camp is a little tricky (for both sides) so, wouldn't want to pass many more people than there were.
Good. And, I was running pretty much by my self on the way down. You could increase the field size without hurting the experience. (Add another 50 next year & see how it goes?)
Great, all the high school volunteers did a great job and are very much appreciated. I am so glad that this great race could give back to the high schools in the community!
I believe it was a good field for the race. Too many more and it would have been too crowded and more congestion on the course.
I feel it could be bigger but it was perfectly fine the way it was.
I had no problem with the size, it does narrow down very quickly so you really have to work around runners to pass.
I think given people drop out the applicants could be increased by 25-50 participants.
I think it could have been larger - but the size was fine!
I think it was fine. About the time I was getting tired of yielding to downhill runners, I hit Barr Camp and became a downhill runner.
I think just right
I think more could enter since it filled prior to the race.
I think there is room for more runners. But the price to pay will be more of a bottleneck at the start.
I think trail can easily handle about 50 more unless they are all runners of the same ability. Hard to make sure you have varied abilities to spread them out. Coming back down the trail there weren't ANY crowds at all.
I think we could handle a few more. It thinned out very quickly.
I think your could let a few more runners in if you wanted to. The up/down traffic is not too bad.
I thought it was fine, sometimes its nicer to have more people to compete with, but it was nice to have the trails not to crowded so you could go at your desired pace
I thought it was just right.
I thought the field size was fine. Anymore may have made coming down a little crazy
I would want more people to come out and support this great race, but the trails are too narrow and it takes forever to pass all of the people that are slower than you.
It could have been bigger. There was congestion at the start, but it thinned out pretty fast. On the way down, I was pretty much running alone.
It seemed as though the course would support a 10% increase. However, there were no hikers out this year, which made a huge difference with regards to the available room on the trail.
It seemed like a good size to me; not too much overcrowding.
It seemed like too many people at the very start, but after the W's or so, I was very much alone for a lot of the race.
It was a little crowded at first, but wide open later on.
It was about right. I would like to see more competition at top (even though I wasn't quite there this year), but I wouldn't want too many more people at the start unless you start in waves.
It was good!
It was just right. More people would make it more dangerous and difficult to maneuver.
It was obviously smaller than last year, probably too small.
It was ok. I thought it would be too much, but after the start, it was quite manageable. More could probably be handled.
It was probably just right. I wish more people could run in the race, but the trail got quite crowded in some places, particularly for those of us in the middle of the pack.
It's a good size
Just about right, although it was pretty clogged up through the switchbacks.

Just right -- I was surprised at the perfect number for spreading everyone out evenly!
Just right - not too hard passing people or being passed!
Just right it was perfect
Just right!
Just right!
Just right, although prior to the start of the race there should be someone with a loudspeaker emphasizing the need to allow faster individuals to pass on the left. Many slow runners ran down the middle of the trail and would not move over for faster runners.
Just right, did not feel crowded on the trail
just right, had plenty of room to run on the trail
Just right, I like smaller races
Just right, or could have even been larger. More toilets though!
Just right, quite a few people in the running community can register yet by limiting it the race becomes closer.
Just right, was able to pass.
Just right.

Just right.
Just right. Crowds weren't a problem on the ascent or descent.
Just right. Definitely no more!
Just right. It took awhile to spread the field out, but I thought it was very good once we got past the Ws. Could have allowed a few more people even.
Just right. Lots of runners but not so many that the trail was crowded.
Just right. Might be room for a few more.
Just right. Not crowded.
just right. not too crowded.
Just right. Otherwise trail is too crowded.
Just right. Plenty of room on the trail.
Just right. The crowd wasn't too big, so the trail was easy to navigate at the start and finish.
Just right. The start was crowded. The top was nice.
Just Right. This keeps is a small enough race to make it enjoyable to run and easier to manage.
Just right. Very competitive. Please do not expand it.
Just right. When I ran the ascent last year, it was too crowded. This was just the right number of participants
maybe 500 max
Maybe a little too big. Experienced some nudging during the climb.
Maybe a little too small. I ran alone for almost the whole race.
Nice Size Race

Overall just right. Start was a little too crowded for me.
perfect
Perfect size...
Pretty good. Better than the ascent
Probably just right. The beginning was tight, but it thinned out quickly
Probably too big. I started in the back, and had to walk nearly three miles. The trail is just too narrow to effectively pass many people. Is a wave-start practical? Or, could the start be moved back to Soda Springs, so runners can be strung-out, and settle into an appropriate position, before starting on the trail?
Seemed about right. Still had a small race feel to it , which is nice, but there was actually quite a large field
Seemed fine
Seemed fine to me, although looked like we could have handled more.
Seemed fine. There's enough distance before it narrows down to thin out the crowd
Seemed just right. No crowding problems at all. Much better than PPA and PPM.
Seemed like there could have been more runners. Didn't think it was overly congested
Seems like there could have been more people
The field size was a good compromise between allowing the greatest number of participants without the return journey becoming too crowded.
The number was fine. I'm not good enough to compete against others. I am just racing against myself.
The size of the race was OK, but not any bigger.
The trail could certainly accommodate more racers, but I don't think the finish area could handle more. So, the size was probably about right.
Too many runners on the course would have made it extremely difficult to compete and pass especially on the decent. The field size was just right.
Too small
Too small
too small
Too small. More people = more competition (to a certain extent)
Too small. Sure it starts out a little tight but very quickly things are fine. I think it is too spread out after about an hour of running so I would like to see more. Just don't go overboard.
Too Small...More runners, mean better competition...although, the environmental impact must be taken into account.
was just right
