A lot of fun
A well organized, special event that makes me want to come back. The runner Awards seemed to be a little on the chintzy side, especially the writing which looked like a summer camp project. Suggest you do something about that for next year.
Absurd to not have medical coverage and on-site EMT - prioritize this next year!!!
Aid station workers were inexperienced, could have used some introduction to giving out liquid
All in all, it was a great race. It was a competitive field and a lot of fun.
All of you should be congratulated on a great job.
An excellently run event overall. I guess I'm just not interested in running fast down very steep, loose gravel trails. I have always considered myself an excellent downhill runner, on good footing anyway, but the Barr Trail has taken its toll on me with 3 falls and two sprained ankles out of 5 runs to Barr Camp, including this race. I must leave the trail racing to those better adapted to it. Best of luck next year!
At the turn around at Barr Camp have markings on the ground or race shoots so you know where to run to or around that is easily visible
Awesome job Matt!!
Awesome race wonderfully well put on and it better be here next year!
Awesome race!!!
Best race of the year, organization, prizes, drawings, aid, competition, etc.
Can't wait run this race again, thank you.
Concern about parking if the race grows too much larger since the start is up in the congested end of town.
Congrats to the race committee for an outstanding job!
Congratulations to the Race Committee for an Outstanding job. The inaugural BTMR was a huge success.
Could ceremony be held at finish line or would that tie up the area too long?
Definitely one of my all time best race experiences -- even though I didn't do anything impressive w.r.t. the competition.
Do it again next year
Do it again next year
Excellent event. Started on time and as a runner everything happened that supported my efforts.
Excellent Race!
Excellent race, I hope I'm here next year to do it again.
Excellent water stops; good support at every one.
Explain course, especially the finish, at start or in race packet. Fewer ads and/or more goodies in bag.
For the first time out of the block the race seemed a success from my standpoint. I am sure there was a lot of last minute things to tend to and you already have plans for improvement but accolades to the Barr Trail Mountain Race staff for making this first time event a hit.
For the lottery, to prevent drawing people who are gone, maybe have everybody present at the ceremony add their number in the drawing?
For your first year, you did a great job! I was also impressed with the field. This race attracted some serious runners and served to inspire me to work on my hill running.
Good job guys!
Great entry fee. Good race. Happy to participate. Don't schedule the last race committee meeting on a Saturday night!!!
Great inaugural event. I'm sure you guys will make it even better next year.
Great inaugural race. I'm looking forward to it next year.
Great job - but running downhill is too hard on me knees. This is the reason why I am not joining next year
Great job and I was happy to a sponsor. Call me for next year.
Great job and I will be back next year.
Great job! This really is a great 'tune up' race for the PPA/M! I have talked to a lot of folks lately who don't think they are capable of/want to do a race as strenuous as the PPA/M - I think that the distance of this race could lure more of those runners in if they knew about it!
Great job! You all put on a terrific show.
Great job. I enjoyed this race immensely. The people are great. The course is technical. I will be there next year.
Great race - thanks for the invite
Great race everyone did a great job setting it up
Great race good start it's a winner should catch on
Great Race! Well organized especially for a first annual. Can't wait to do it next year.
Great Race! I'm ready to do it again. I will add it to my list of annual races!
Great race! The race crew was wonderful, aid stations were great, and I caught 2 people on Hydro street thanks to the club workouts.
Great race, and even better considering it was the 1st year.
Great race, great first year
Great race, I'm definitely running it next year!
Great race, organizers, support, and sponsors - no real complaints
Great race, thanks to all the organizers and volunteers. Have told several runners they missed out and they will be signing up next year.
Great race, thanks to all who organized it, especially Matt!
Great Race. Good job on the organizers part. Thanks
Great race. Plan on entering again next year.
Great race. Good org. Lots of fun
Great Run. If I'm in Colorado I'll do it again next year. In mean time I'll tell all my East Coast friends about it
Great website and literature. All my questions were answered. Great announcing.
Had a great time, really enjoy the Incline club folks, they've made the training fun!
Hope to be able to make it next year
I am not an experienced runner-mostly a hiker and love to be on trails in the mountain. Can't really answer all questions because I am fairly new to running and have not tried lots of products-Also train mostly by myself and have not been involved with groups due to work schedule and inexperience and insecurity in running skills.
I didn't comment on the overall and masters winners and the age group because my position is still gestating. I really don't know. Consider Rick H. He ran the best race of his life, and moved onto a different level, but he only got a fourth place award. On the one hand, the top overall finishers got nice awards, and maybe didn't need more. On the other hand, how else do they get physical evidence of how well they did to their age group peers. The evidence would indicate that it was much harder to land in the top 10% of Rick's age group than any other. I don't know. I think there are many right answers to this one, and perhaps it is a good thing that different races do it differently. p.s. I saw that dog running with someone who was not racing. I think the other dog, who was his buddy, was a Dalmatian. The guy was running uphill, but not down.
I do think they need a first aid kit at the finish. Something to wash out trail wounds
I enjoyed my first trail race
I had a blast. It was one of the funnest races I have ever done. I have been racing seriously (mostly triathlons) for seven years. I usually place overall (strong swimming background) and in the 100 or so races I've done, I've NEVER received an age group award. I have been happy to see athletes who aren't quite fast enough to place in the 'elite/overall' division, still duke it out in their age groups and have a race at their own level.
I had a great time running this race. Thanks to everybody who organized it and volunteered at the aid stations.
I had a PR to Bar Camp!!!
I had an excellent time. As Cindy suggested, I will perhaps train for next year.
I hope you are able to continue with the race. I noticed that in spite of saying absolutely no cars to be parked on Ruxton, there were a number of runners' cars there. None of them got ticketed or towed. That may set a precedence for next year for people to try to park there since no penalties appeared to have occurred.
I hope you do it again next year
I liked the idea of the runners doing a warm up to the start
I look forward to participating again next year...I'd like to see it happen 3 weeks prior to the "big" race instead of just 2.
I really enjoyed the experience and was glad to be a part of it. If you want a humorous story for the run, I ran this race to be able to make sure that my descent was one in which I didn't fall. I am running the PP Marathon and am concerned about the descent portion. I didn't trip or fall and completed the run faster than I anticipated. I did win a door prize and tripped going to get my door prize and get my toe x-rayed today to see if I broke it. Ironically, I may miss the Marathon because of the awards ceremony. Thanks for putting on the race, I really liked it.
I really like Zeb Pike, I thought he was a hoot!
I think the race was well planned. Because of my age, it is a difficult race, but I do the roundtrip when training for the Peak ascent. So it was perfect for that purpose.
I think this will become a major event.
I think we need to shorten the overall cutoff time, to encourage more runners (vs. hikers/"joggers") to participate. I don't think it's necessarily bad if we don't fill up completely, but I do think we want to discourage people who have not trained adequately for a mountain race from entering. We should also establish an uphill cutoff (at No Name), to be sure we can get all the participants, including the slowest ones, off the mountain within a reasonable time. I think we need about 5 port-o-lets; we had a long line at one point, and a couple people in the line missed the start of the race. OR we need to have someone at the start line continually announcing that the Cog restrooms were open and available for use (not sure most of the entrants knew this!). (These are my comments for the meeting on Saturday, if Lynn and I aren't able to come, due to the baby coming!)
I think you have raised the bar on the local race scene! A packet that actually took some time to go through, incredible results, a fast and competitive race. Again you covered all the bases. Can't wait to see what you come up with next year!
I think you needed more Ice, So that you could put the bottled water in Ice. Cause I believe that Water is absorbed best when near 34 degrees and does not cause cramps at that Temp. If there were trails near me I'd run them more. The club has a run once a week , so the other 5 times I generally run alone. This was my first true trail race the other one was 5 miles on trails and 1 mile on asphalt. I don't think I can arrange my vacation to run next year, but I would run it if I could. I would like to run the ascent. I liked going up better than coming down.
I thought the overall winners should not have received prizes for age groups. Selfishly, this would have secured an award for me. Nonetheless, I am a transplant and still getting to know people in my adopted hometown. I imagined my name being trumpeted out by Zeb Pike and the ensuing congratulations from other runners who might not have known my name before but recognized me from seeing my tired rear-end out there doing the training along with them. My only response to someone being pronounced (first) an overall winner and then an age-group winner is: duh. Statistics. Kinda like being crowned Miss America and also getting "Prettiest Contestant." After Matt was named champion I'm pretty sure I heard someone whisper - "(I bet he wins his age group too.)" Okay, there it is. Otherwise, no gripes :) GOOD JOB ALL!!!!! INCLINE CLUB ROCKS!!!
I was excited about doing the race and then became ill the day before the race
I would like to thank the organizational committee for a great event in its first year. I am sure it will only get better.
If the awards could be made to look more professional without a greater outlay of means, that would be great.
I'll be back next year - running faster!
I'm glad I ran this race and look forward to doing so again.
It was a blast! I liked the warm-up groups, though nothing exciting, I wouldn't have warmed up that much otherwise and I think it helped. The aid stations were great. It seemed well organized and staffed. The course was challenging and I think an excellent warm up for the Pikes Peak marathon I'm signed up for
It was a great race. One more portapoty and a faster awards ceremony might make it perfect !
It was a lot of fun!
It was a nice touch that Matt Carpenter was there to shake hands.
It was a well run race with nice awards, aid stations, and nice finish line hand outs and help, clock should have been even with finish line
It was great. Keep up the good work.
It would be great if we could receive an email notification prior to next year's race registration period. I enjoyed it so much this year, I would hate to miss out on the opportunity to do it again next year. Thanks.
Kudos on a very well run inaugural race
Let me see the results ....
Looking forward to entering the race again next year. I think all the race organizers and volunteers did an excellent job. Thanks, Max Armstrong.
Looking forward to next years edition. Please maintain the same course so that times can be compared. Thanks again
looking to forward to next year; more races organized by this group
Matt Carpenter is too fast
Matt was very professional at the finish line congratulating runners, and everything else he did for the race.
More races please
My car horn is louder than the COG train whistle. If that's the only negative thing I can say, than it must have been a very well run race. Obviously a lot of planning went into this, and the event came off pretty much flawless.
My only other trail race was outside of Baltimore -- totally flat rails to trails trail, so this was really my first true trail race and it was magnificent. Stops near the top, with views, should be mandatory.
Need bags to put your stuff in at the finish line
Need more GU at the stops
Ok
One of the best organized races I have seen especially for first year.
One of the best races I have ever run
Overall great race!!!
Overall, an excellent race, I like the aid station vote, those people never get enough recognition. Good sponsors (GU, jog mate)
Overall, it was an excellent race. Since moving to CO five years ago, I have thought this course would be great for a race. It was as good as I imagined.
Pretty good organization for an inaugural affair. Some things need to be tweaked. Maybe move the finish line a bit. Or at least curve the last corner. Some runners were hauling ass up the hill and almost missed the turn. (a couple did altogether) P.S. PAUL SULLIVAN IS A WANKER!!!!!!
Race officials and helpers were very friendly. Matt Carpenter shaking my hand at the end was nice touch.
See above. I thought it was a great event and went off very smoothly, especially for the first time. Congratulations!
See you next year.
Thank you for a great race! Made me feel good that the high school kid's got the money
Thank you for all of your hard work!!!!! This was a great race.
Thanks for a fun race!
Thanks for a wonderful race
Thanks for organizing it!
Thanks for organizing this event! Please don't penalize me for answering this survey by releasing my e-mail address to vendors or other third parties. Thanks.
Thanks for putting on a wonderful race. I had a great time!
Thanks for putting together such a fun event, and one within the reach of us less in shape runners!
Thanks Matt and everyone else for a great race.
Thanks to everyone who made this race possible
Thanks! I'll be running more local trail events.
The downhill.
The Hydro street finish was a surprise. It's fine to include that last 80 foot elevation, but I wasn't expecting it, and was psychologically spent at the base of Hydro Street. For those familiar with the location, or for those who did the math based on info on the green sheet, that there was that climb to the finish may not have been a surprise. But I have never heard of Hydro Street, and did not calculate the numbers provided, so the climb was discouraging and embarrassing, since there were so many people around as I crawled up the slope. (Even the Golden O's have their pride. You too may someday be Old, Overweight and Outta shape.) Maybe you could put the climb finish is big bold letters or in some other way allow the runners to include it in their mental preparation.
The Pikes Peak Marathon is a formidable task for a lowlander and none trail runner. The BTMR allows us to sample, and enjoy, but still come out of it whole. However, a lasting memory will always be of belting down the trail and bouncing off the wooden guard rails! Next year - a switchback and guard rail please
The quantity and quality of the packet contents was the most impressive I've seen in over 60 races. Great job in digging up sponsors!
The start and finish went well. The race was fun and limiting the number of runners coupled with a cut off time would solve a couple of trouble spots, possibly. This is a money race and should be expected to be racers not hikers.
This is the first race I have ever competed in. It was so cool I am going to keep training and participate in Illinois races and next year I hope to finish before the cut off. Thanks!
This race is definitely a keeper :)
This was a cool race and I hope to do better next year.
This was my first trail run, and I thought it was well-organized, with an informative web page, and generally fun to participate in.
This was my very first running event, the support from the staff and volunteers was extraordinary. It was very obvious that the staff put in a lot of time getting sponsors and perks. I am looking forward to my second race, the second annual barr trail mtn race.
This was one of the most fun races I have volunteered for in a while. I did kind of feel like we were not in the loop on getting t-shirts, having water at the aid stations if necessary, etc. It would have been nice just to have known who to check in with, just so you know we are on the course and in the right spot. Also I thought our spot at the W's could have used one more person. Runners were still compact enough that it was a challenge to read and record bib numbers and times and call splits to the runners as well. We also received some complaints that our time split was off by a couple seconds, so maybe there is some way that we can be in sync with the official time clock. All in all an awesome race to watch and run for most. Great job for a first time race!!
This was one the greatest best organized races I have had the pleasure to have run. Hats off to a great success and hopefully it will be a start to many more in the years to come.
This was the best organized race I've done in the Pike Peak region. I can't believe it considering it was a first time race. To all who were involved: race staff, volunteers & sponsors, thank you so much for the great experience.
This was, in fact, a terrific warm up for the Ascent/Marathon
To all the race staff and volunteers - you did a great fantastic job. Thanks
Too few toilets
Very fun race, I'll run it again
Very impressed overall. Good job
Very well done!!
Well done for a first time running
Well done.
Well organized, good aid stations
Well planned and executed race, I liked it.
Well run inaugural race! The finish area was really cramped but I can appreciate the constraints that you were faced with
Wish I lived in mountains and could run mountain trails every day. It was an overall excellent experience.
Wonderful race! thanks!
Would like to have seen mile markers along the way
Wouldn't have minded waiting for the awards if there was a shady place to sit and still be able to see the finish line. It was a very exposed area and I burn easily (and my sunscreen was in my car a mile down the road - too tired to go down and back up)
You did a terrific job and especially considering it was the first year, it went without a hitch. Sign up was a breeze, packet pickup was easy, finish and start were great. Parking was no problem.
You guys did an outstanding job in organizing and bringing off this race!
You guys should be proud for putting together such an incredible race. I enjoyed myself and thankful to those of you that put so much time into it!!!! THANK YOU AND SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!!! PP Ascent, here I come!!
