What did you like most about the race: (175)
A good practice for my upcoming PP Marathon.
Aid stations and scenery
Aid stations
All of the people involved.
All on trail
As this was my first mountain trail race, I can only relate to road races. At BTMR the organization, info web, awards and general friendliness of organizers and participants, I thought was outstanding.
Beating Paul and Anthony. I thought the aid station set up was outstanding. Everyone, runners to support to bystanders were very friendly and high energy.
Beauty of the trail, supportive mood of everyone.
Camaraderie of participants
Challenge and scenery and uniqueness
Challenging course, good competition, well-organized, volunteers were great
Challenging course
Cheerful attitude of all the wonderful race staff and workers
Down hill
Everyone was very friendly. The aid stations were inspiring.
Everything - well organized, lots of aid stations, great trail, great shirts, challenging.
Everything was very well organized
Everything
Excellent support and good speed test before marathon.
Extremely well organized. It's obvious the committee busted their butts to get so much sponsorship and volunteer support for such a relatively small race.
Fast competition. I went just to use it as a training run for Pikes Peak, but was surprised at the number of really fast trail runners.
Feeling prepared and doing well. It's also a great trail and it was fun cheering for the people going the opposite direction.
Festive, well-run race
Finish line
Finishing it! Great experience.
FINISHING IT
Finishing. Actually, I thought that the race was very well-run, the people were very friendly, packet pick-up was easy and the post-race accommodations were very ample. My husband and I also liked that it was so personal (e.g. hearing our names and hometowns when we approached and crossed the finish line) The personal touch is always quite welcome.
First mountain race, nice change of pace from hitting the roads.
For those of us to who could not get into the Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon, this race still provides an opportunity to race on the Barr Trail. Overall, this was a well organized race.
Free stuff
Getting a good hard run to Barr Camp
Good alternative to the Pikes Peak Marathon. (I am tired of all the walkers.) It is important to keep the money awards. Personally I think they should be at least doubled next year. I would not mind paying an extra $5 for that to happen. This will bring out and maintain the competitive nature of the race.
Good attitudes!
Good organization
Good training run before the real thing makes it more fun
Gorgeous trail, first time we've done a trail race.
Great entry fee. Awesome trail. Well organized and great sponsorship.
Great group of runners! Very organized race. Great trail. Great giveaways at the end. I loved everything including the great competition. The leaders inspire me to work a little harder!!
Great timing before the ascent.
Great timing for a prep race for PP
Great trail, of course. The chance to do something like Pikes Peak Marathon (up AND down), yet half the distance. This race is a great alternative to the Ascent. Also, that was a generous race packet!
Great trail. Aid stations/support. Fans. Weather. Unique awards.
Great train up for the Ascent
Great tune-up for the marathon
Great weather, lots of goodies at the end (food!)
I enjoyed the hometown atmosphere of the race.
I finished
I have never run a "first" race
I improved my time by about 5 minutes
I like Barr trail, if it helps maintenance costs, it's great
I like the aid stations the best. They were well placed and enthusiastic.
I liked that you made the effort to have the proceeds go to very worthy causes. I think the aid station idea was great and the kids were wonderful. I think more races should try to help local running programs in the schools.
I liked the involvement of the high schools and the competition between them.
I love the idea of racing to Barr Camp and back. It is also a perfect tune-up for the PP ascent/marathon which is only two weeks away
It is necessary to plan your race carefully.
It seemed to be put on by people that understand running. From being able to see the complete registration list on the www site, race tips in the packets, race warm-ups, pre-opened GU packs during the race, all the split times in the results and yes even this survey, this thing was first class. All that for $15 is awesome. The fact that you then donated that money makes me wonder about all the claims of other races trying to justify their high costs and lack of runner support.
It was challenging for a non-trail runner. Very well organized.
It was nice and cool at the higher elevations. Race announcer was great!
It was on Barr Trail.
It was small, I love the course. The support was great.
It was steep, this made me work hard. We are training for Imogene.
It was the best run race I've been to in Colorado Springs in a long time.
It was very well organized. I also liked not having to run up Ruxton.
It was very well organized.
It's a great, moderately challenging trail
It's on a trail.
Just running to Barr Camp and back for time. During the PP Marathon you can't run hard to Barr Camp like you would in this run because you will pay for it the last 6 miles to the top.
Limited number of entrants, good planning, the sponsors and charities, Roger.
Limiting the number of runners, the distance is great, the aid stations were great also
Location, course
Location
Lots of energy, sponsors, coordinated. Also, the fact that the area high school runners benefited and were out there cheering people on.
More efforts by the organizers than usual T-shirt
Nice training run for the Pikes Peak Ascent run in a few weeks
Nice trial - nice workers
Ok
Organization, pre-race info (Web), and Aid stations
Perfect conditions
Perfect day! Perfect trail! Good mix of runners!
Practice going up for Ascent
Really liked high school track teams being involved and compensated - made this race special.
Running on Barr Trail
Scenery and challenge
Scenery and upbeat attitude of the runners, especially the female runners. Hearing my and my wife's names announced at the finish.
Scenery, the people
Scenery
Seeing people I train with do well
Seeing so many friends from the Incline Club
Small and fast race, good distance, friendly people everywhere
Small enough to be pleasant and have good camaraderie, but large enough to have good competition
Small field size
Small number of participants made the trail less crowded.
Spectacular trail setting, excellent support
Student involvement from the high schools and it didn't go above treeline
Talking to all the other competitors. (Also Running up the Mountain, that was RAD.)
Terrain
That I finished under three hours.
That's a hard one to answer: the course; the race was well-organized and well-executed; the field of runners had everything from world-class to first-timers; the race volunteers were wonderful - I liked having the H.S. cross-country teams man the aid stations; and of course, raising money for such good causes !
The aid stations - it puts a little fun into the race with the competition between schools. I also liked the different awards, and how all the profit went to organizations that benefit the peak.
The aid stations were great.
The aid stations.
The Announcer was AWESOME! Where did you get such a fantastic announcer? Never before have I ever experienced anything like him. Bring him back if nothing else
The atmosphere
The camaraderie. It is great talking to people who are familiar with trail running and you can exchange tips, share stories or learn something new.
The challenge and great scenery
The challenge
The community involvement - from the organizations it benefited to the high schoolers working the aid stations. Also it was awesome to see so many of the runners from the Incline Club either running it or providing support. It's always great to see a smiling supportive face. :)
The course and the distance.
The course and the race organization.
The course is great, with a good amount of uphill and downhill. The aid stations with the high schoolers was fantastic. They made it a lot of fun. The way the proceeds were divided and distributed was also great. It's nice to see so many local business contributing, and to give money back to the high school programs was a terrific idea. Hopefully it will encourage people that age to get involved with mountain running.
The course, the distance, and timing in relation to other races / training schedule
The course, the great people
The course
The course
The cutoff time, lots of door prizes, and that all the entry fees went to donations.
The distance and number of people
The distance is perfect for a tune up and a really hard effort
The excitement and encouragement that every participant and volunteer exemplified- it made it a very enjoyable experience for my first trail race
The fact that is was all trail (no scrambling up at the top - like with Kendall Mt. Run) that you can run.
The Finish. I hate running down Ruxton in the Marathon.
The friendly, encouraging people along the way and at the end
The fund-raising aspect - especially for the schools
The great participates
The hill at the end! I also appreciated the friendliness of all the runners and staff, and the camaraderie during the race
The home-cooked (hometown) feel, and the high school athletes cheering at the aid stations
The incredible organization
The incredible race committee! Yes, that, but actually, the cozy intimate, family-like feeling that we all belonged to a special group of runners: Mountain runners. Also, like a family, I felt my participation helped "give back" to the PP-based non-profits and HS programs
The laid back and out of the way finish area.
The large support to the charities. A great course.
The limited field, the runners seemed more courteous, the support crews were very good.
The locale
The location, well organized, lots of sponsors, prizes for the HS support groups
The mountain AND people
The mountain, the day, the good organization and the participants
The mountain
The music at Barr Camp
The opportunity to prove that a non-trail runner could run "up" - I was 11th at Barr Camp and gaining on 3 other runners.
The organization and "energy"
The organization seemed very smooth
The organization, route, aid stations
The organization
The other runners were really encouraging as they passed me (they were already going down and I was still huffing and puffing up). They almost all said "good job" or "go 66" or "you can make it". It was a real boost just when I thought I was going to pass out. Everyone was real nice including the volunteers and organizers.
The people, organizers very nice and friendly
The race was very well organized so to me it is very hard to choose what I like most!
The run itself and the aid station support
The run itself, which is very beautiful. Also, the other people in the race. It was a very well done event. Thank you.
The run seemed easy after training for the Marathon and thus was fun. Also as Matt said it was a great warm up for Pikes Peak.
The scenery, camaraderie and challenge.
The scenery
The sense of community. Zebulon Pike announcing
The size, the participants, the volunteers.
The small size
The spirit of the runners - although I was the second to last person
The support from the high school students and the little uphill finish
The uphill
The volunteers - they were great!
The wonderful hill at the end, you bastards
Timing before Marathon, trail, the organization, prize money, high school involvement. Also all the random drawings were great.
Timing before the marathon for training.
Timing. I'm doing the PP Marathon and this was an excellent training run. I am a "recreational" runner and this was great for me.
Trail race good size great trail
Using it as a shake down for the Ascent. All of the volunteers as well as racers were so nice and gave it a great feel.
Very well organized, many groups benefited; exciting, competitive field
Water stations, food
Well organized and fun
Well organized and run. Most runners seemed to have a good time.
Well organized, lots of enthusiasm, and a challenging approach to the finish line.
Well organized, supported and sponsored
Well organized. The distance is great. GU at the aid stations.
Well organized. Well set up. Distance just right.
Well organized.
Well run. Small. Stayed off the lower switch backs on Barr Trail and used the power house road branch.
Well run
Winning, and not being beat up
You put it on!!!
