Did you find the 7 hidden runners?
2005 was a hot one!
319 runners survived the heat and beat the 3h30 cut-off! Katie Ann Blackett and Matt Carpenter defended their titles from last year. Despite the temperature, 5 more age-group records were taken out! In the fund raising department, the race gave away $9,102.00 (100% of race entry fees) to local non profit and community projects. In the high school challenge Palmer ran away from the competition to win the $2,250 prize. A total of $6,000 dollars was awarded to high school running teams taking this year’s total donations to $15,102! Speaking of awards, all 23 age-group winners won a pair of La Sportiva running shoes and the top 5 M/F overall ran away with a GoLite jacket.

Our Condolences
Our thoughts are with the family of the hiker who passed away on the Barr Trail during the running of the 2005 BTMR. While he was not associated with our event news like this still impacts us all. Indeed, that we had Search and Rescue out on the course may have given him his best hope. Unfortunately, he was not responsive to a variety of treatments, including defibrillation and medication.

High School Aid Station Challenge
Congratulations to Palmer at Bobs Road who was the $2,250 Challenge winner this year. Bottom line, they knew the runners by name! How? They went to this website before the race and downloaded the bib number confirmation list. The extra effort paid off big time!!!
2nd place and $1,500 went to Coronado at No Name
3rd place and $1,000 went to Cheyenne Mountain at the Start/Finish
4th place and $750 went to Mesa Ridge at Barr Camp
5th place and $500 went to Woodland at the Incline

Fundraising
Breakdown of the money the 2005 Barr Trail Mountain Race raised and donated:
The six high schools: $6,000.00
Barr Camp: $2,452.67
Friends of the Peak: $2,299.16
El Paso County Search and Rescue: $2,222.17
Manitou Springs Creekwalk Trail: $2,128.00
Total donations: $15,102.00 or $36.92 per registrant, $47.34 per finisher!

Great sponsors made this possible because the average entry fee was only $19.17 bringing in $7,842.00, all of which was donated, and yet there were many expenses with T-shirts alone costing $2,114.25 along with $2,800 in prize money and primes.
