Pikes Peak Barr Trail Mountain RaceLarry Miller, Race Director Registration for the 5th annual Barr Trail Mountain Race to be run July 18th is underway. Pikes Peak National Bank is once again the presenting sponsor of the 12 mile race to Barr Camp and back on the Barr Trail. Beating the 3 hour 30 minute cut-off is an accomplishment in its own right and every runner who does so earns a race T-shirt and a Chipotle meal certificate. The BTMR is also a great tune-up for the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon. When it comes to fundraising, the BTMR goes the extra mile to give back to the community and the mountain in which we live and play. For the 5th year in a row 100% of race entry fees will be donated with this years recipients being; Barr Camp, El Paso County Search and Rescue, Friends of the Peak, the Manitou Springs Fire Department and TESSA.
Another way the BTMR gives back is through its High School Aid Station Challenge. Area high school running teams staff the aid stations along the course. After the race the runners vote for their favorite station. A total of $6,000 will be awarded to school running programs as follows: This money is badly needed by the teams and even the fifth place award is more than the annual budget of some school running programs! In all, the BTMR has donated over $56,000 to area non profit organizations and high schools in its first 4 years. This is only possible thanks to the support of awesome sponsors! Indeed, it would be impossible to give away 100% of the entry fees and an additional $6,000 to high schools if it were not for race sponsors! If you would like more information about the Barr Trail Mountain Race check out the race website at www.runpikespeak.com or call the race director, Larry Miller, at 590-7086. Entry is limited to the first 400 runners. KEEP RUNNING! |
