High School Aid Station Challenge
After 227 votes only 11 votes separated the top two aid stations. Liberty high school, at Bob’s Road, pulled out all the stops complete with a homemade water mister that helped cool down some very hot runners. For their efforts they won $2,000 for their running program. They also won a spot in next year’s Aid Station Challenge. Air Academy at the start, Coronado at the Incline Overlook, Colorado Springs Christian at No Name, Wasson at Barr Camp and Sand Creek at the finish each received $1,000 for doing a station. Mesa Ridge high school had 5 of their 7 entered runners finish the race and therefore won the participation challenge and a spot in next year’s challenge.

Fundraising
Breakdown of the money the 2002 Barr Trail Mountain Race raised and donated:
The six high schools: $7,000.00
El Paso County Search and Rescue: $2,182.92
Barr Camp: $2,097.42
Friends of the Peak: $2,061.41
All American Trail Running Association: $1,889.25
Total donations: $15,231.00 or $42.66 per registrant, $54.01 per finisher!
