High School Aid Station - Longs Ranch Road Driving Instructions
The following information is for those doing the No Name Creek and Bobs Road aid stations in the Barr Trail Mountain Race. The roads used to access these stations are not the place to test your driving skill or vehicle. Longs Ranch Road in particular is very steep and is rutted in places. There are also steep drop offs in some places, which can make some drivers very uncomfortable. Finally, depending on how the rains have been, the road can be very bad.

Therefore, the following rules applies to those driving to these aid stations:

  1. Commands and instructions by EPCSAR personnel must be obeyed, no exceptions.
  2. If a driver doesn’t have off road experience, they should not drive this road.
  3. If their vehicle hasn’t been used in a real off road environment, it shouldn’t be used.
  4. The road can be navigated without a winch and skid plates if you have adequate ground clearance.
  5. Crossover SUVs, which are really cars designed to look like SUVs, will not make the trip.
  6. Subarus will not make the trip. Neither will the Ford Explorer.
  7. Vehicles that will do ok are Jeeps (Grand Cherokee is fair), most trucks, Chevy suburbans.
  8. Any vehicle going up must have 4x4 low range. You must know how to use it.
  9. EPCSAR reserves the right to refuse any vehicle, driver, load, or passengers. You cannot have your people walk/run up the road (except to free a stuck/stopped vehicle).
  10. Do not expect EPCSAR to carry your load or people up the road. We are already full.

Thanks,
